Tips For Reading At Home

First grade is such an exciting year for eager readers!  Your child will gain more confidence as a reader and develop fluency by reading lots of different kinds of books in a variety of ways.  Young readers become good readers by listening to good readers and by reading themselves.  You may choose to -
~Read to your child while he/she listens.
~Read with your child, alternating who reads aloud.
~Listen to your child read aloud.

Be sure to alternate between the different ways to read, and ask your child questions about the book before, during, and after reading to better judge if he/she is understanding the book.
